My Story

The Hollow Victory of Success

My name is Simon Farrell.

I co-owned and ran a large brand design consultancy in Edinburgh for over ten years. In that time I oversaw pitches that won £10m of new business income, I managed a team of 45 people, we hit profit targets in 10 out of 11 years, I was on the board of DBA, and won countless creative and effectiveness awards. 

From the outside, it looked like the perfect story of creative business success.

From the inside, it was costing me everything. My sense of freedom. My confidence. My creative edge. Eventually, it cost me my health and my job.

I was so focused on business success I missed the most obvious thing;

What’s the point of being successful if getting it feels terrible.

The turning point didn’t come in the form of a better strategy. It came in a different way of seeing things — myself, my business, and the relationship between them.

That shift took years to fully embed and understand. But now it’s here I’ve been able to put into a form so I can offer it to others.

The Aligned Creative Business Leader is that form.

At the heart of this programme is a framework called the Resonance Circle.

It was developed from two decades of leading and thinking about creative businesses — and it asks a question that most business tools never ask:

Not: how do you win new clients? Not: how do you grow profitably? But: is there genuine, living alignment between who you are as a person, what your business actually is, and the ecosystem you both inhabit?

When there is resonance, you'll know it. Decisions arrive with clarity. Creative work feels alive. The business moves with a kind of organic coherence.

When resonance has broken down, you'll know that too. There's a heaviness. Anxiety follows you into the weekend. Creative decisions feel forced. The team looks healthy from the outside but feels hollow within.

These are not problems of strategy or execution. They are symptoms of alignment that has broken down.

The Four Territories

The Circle holds three primary territories, each representing a distinct dimension of your experience as a creative business leader. They are not separate domains — they are in constant, dynamic relationship with each other.

Personal Identity Who you are beyond the business role. Your creative capacity, your values, your sense of self that would still exist if the business ceased tomorrow.

The work here: personal sufficiency — separating your worth from the business's performance.

Business Identity The business as its own living entity — with its own purpose, identity, and needs that are distinct from yours, though deeply related to them.

The work here: business sufficiency — what does this business genuinely need to thrive, on its own terms?

The Ecosystem

The living field of relationships, forces, and patterns within which your business exists — clients, collaborators, market shifts, the broader creative landscape.

The work here: accurate perception — seeing the ecosystem clearly, without the distortion of fear or assumption.

Life

The ground beneath the other three territories. Life is the creative force — the generative energy that flows through everything. It is not a fourth domain to be worked on in the same way. It is the source that becomes available when personal sufficiency is present, business identity is clear, and the ecosystem is perceived without distortion.

It cannot be manufactured or controlled. It can only be accessed. You will know it when it is flowing — decisions arrive with clarity, creative work feels alive, the business moves with organic coherence. You will know it when it is not.

Programme Outline

The goal of the programme is bring like-minded leaders together to belong, explore and evolve. Together we’ll discover what it means to lead a business in a more soul nurturing way. And to support each other in maintaining high frequency as we do so.

The programme is group-based and anchored around 6 in-person, half day sessions. There’ll be fortnightly Zoom calls in-between the sessions and ongoing WhatsApp comms to provide support, community and inspiration.
